Eucalypso - the perfect allergy-free sheets

As we shift into Fall, we can finally start saying our goodbyes to dreaded seasonal allergies. However, before we forget all about allergies through the next two seasons, let’s address a question the Eucalypso team gets frequently:

“Will Eucalypso sheets cause allergic reactions?”

We often get this question in concern for pets who are more commonly known to be sensitive and allergic to eucalyptus, but in this article we will also address the risk of eucalyptus allergy to babies and children, as well as you.

Eucalyptus Sheets is not the same as Eucalyptus Oil

At Eucalypso, we are incredibly proud of our products. They really are the result of extensive research, thoughtfulness, and a fiery passion for good sleep. We came to the conclusion that using TENCEL lyocell fibers derived from sustainable wood sources like eucalyptus pulp produces the best quality eco friendly bedding out of all other materials. However, a common question that comes up surrounding our products is whether they will be irritating to animals, those with eucalyptus allergies, or babies.

Eucalyptus is commonly used to make essential oils which have been a hot commodity as of late. Unfortunately, eucalyptus essential oil is irritating to those with eucalyptus allergy and sensitive skin, and truly toxic to cats. Furthermore, we (as adults) may be able to handle an allergic reaction without too much trouble, but an allergy becomes scary when it's attacking an infant. So ultimately, we understand how you’d want to be careful when buying products like "eucalyptus" sheets like TENCEL lyocell or Eucalyptus Lyocell which are not the most common fabrics.

Eucalypso Sheets - safe for allergies

However, you can rest assured that you or your loved ones (baby, pet, or other human) will not be harmed in any way from the eucalyptus wod pulp used in Eucalypso products. Our sheets are actually made fron 100% TENCEL lyocell derived from sustainable wood sources like eucalyptus pulp (click here to read more about TENCEL). During the milling process, the eucalyptus wood pulp is stripped down with an organic solvent to remove any scent or toxins. Our sheets finish production completely unscented so that there are no surface or fabric level irritants that would otherwise irritate sleepers with sensitive skin or allergies. We take precautions to make sure that all our bedding is allergen-free and non-irritating so that everyone can enjoy Eucalypso and a better quality of sleep.

Are Eucalypso Sheet safe for pets?

“What if my cat [or dog] has an eucalyptus allergy?”

Your cat (or dog, or any pet for that matter) will absolutely be fine with our sheets as the allergens and scent is removed early in the creation process. In fact, not only will your pet be okaythey will love the smooth, silky feeling of Eucalypso. If you’re still not convinced because you’ve heard so many horror stories about severe pet reactions to eucalyptus. Note that it is specifically essential oils that are severely toxic to cats (wherein exposure can lead to liver or respiratory failure, seizures, and even death). More specifically, the reason cats react so adversely to essential oils is because they’re missing certain enzymes that provide the ability to process various compounds called phenols. If you’re unfamiliar with phenols and don’t own a cat, don’t be alarmed by this scientific jargon because phenols are just naturally occurring compounds found in plants, and they happen to be highly concentrated in essential oils. Even if you do have a cat, you don’t need to worry about the little fur ball rolling around or cuddling with you in bed because there are absolutely no traces of phenols in our products.

Eucalypso Sheets are Baby Tested & Approved

“What if I don’t know if my baby is allergic or not?”

Another common question we get from concerned parents is whether or not our crib sheets are safe for babies. When your little one is just getting exposed to the world, it’s a whole new live-and-learn journey in figuring out what your baby is irritated by and allergic to. And at Eucalypso, we realize how stressful and scary it can be, so we designed our crib sheets to be safe and gentle by using fibers that nourish and actively protect against allergens and irritants.

The most common type of crib sheets is made from cotton. However, cotton is known to trap sweat and bacteria which can potentially cause irritations and night sweats. Babies have extra sensitive skin that needs to be pampered and protected while they sleep so it’s important to choose a fabric that helps their skin breath while still gentle. If that’s not enough cause for concern, conventionally grown cotton tends to use harmful chemicals that contain known carcinogens, which can be harmful for both human health and the environment.

Eucalypso’s crib sheets on the other hand are made from 100% TENCEL lyocell that is sustainably created and organic dyes. There are no synthetics, harmful chemicals, or irritants. Our sheets are 3x more breathable, 70% more moisture wicking than cotton, and cool to the touch. This allows the skin to breathe while sleeping, and helps wick moisture away from the body, keeping their tiny bodies at a more regulated temperature throughout the night.

Eucalypso - allergy safe for event the most sensitive sleeper

“Can I sleep on Eucalypso sheets if I have an allergy?”

Finally, the money-winning question if you have an eucalyptus allergy yourself. It might seem counterintuitive to sleep on Eucalypso sheets if you have an eucalyptus allergy, but in reality you can still reap the benefits of Eucalypso sheets even if you have an allergy. Our hypoallergenic sheets are actually perfect for sensitive skin as they are antimicrobial, antibacterial, and free of any and all allergen causing agents. As mentioned, cotton sheets can be grossly overrated as they trap dirt and bacteria which can then cause breakouts and adverse reactions similar to those of skin allergy. Our Eucalypso sheets however, actually stay cleaner than the typical cotton sheets as they wick moisture and dry out faster which prevents bacteria from collecting and breeding.

Love, Eucalypso

In conclusion… We are an ALLERGY-FREE zone! Which we take very seriously, so you will not have to worry about any allergens or chemicals or carcinogens for that matter when you sleep with us. Our sheets are 10x more sustainable than cotton and always made in a closed loop process where we reuse and recycle 99% of water and source materials. That’s as clean as it gets! We are very thoughtful about our production process, from the way we harvest the eucalyptus to turn into wood pulp to the final packaging. We start in the forests of Austria where we harvest in small batches to prevent environmental degradation. Then we produce our fabrics in a closed loop process where we reuse & recycle 99% of the water and solvents. Our sheets are then dyed with natural, organic dyes to prevent irritation. Finally, they’re packaged in recycled cardboard in our facilities in Pennsylvania and Washington, and sent to you! We place a lot of thought and consideration into our products because we want you to know that we care about you, your loved ones, pets, and more!
